Um quadrado não é fácil de engolir. Percebemos isso logo nas primeiras tentativas com a tela dividida. A esquizofrenia ameaçava. Era necessário ainda que os quadrados não chamassem demasiada atenção para si. Que não se tornassem protagonistas do filme. Deveriam ser sugeridos pelo prédio. Bem digeridos pelo espectador. Ao longo dos 52 minutos, ao público deveria ser dada a oportunidade de compreender os mecanismos do filme. Era mister seduzi-lo ao jogo: sortilégio fílmico. E para que a coisa acontecesse, trabalhávamos nossa construção com extremo rigor.
Round corners make it easy to swallow! (Editing Diary IV ) A square is not easy to swallow. We see this in the first few attempts with the split screen. Schizophrenia threatened. It was also necessary that the squares would not call too much attention to themselves. That they would not become protagonists of the film. They should be suggested by the building. Well digested by the viewer. Along the 52 minutes it should be given to the public the opportunity to understand the mechanisms of the film. It was necessary to entice them to play the game: filmic sortilege. And to make it happen, we worked on our construction with extreme rigor.
Recortamos um quadrado na cartolina preta. Que vez e outra era acomodado em nosso monitor. Só então surgia na tela o quadro que havíamos visto na filmagem. Nas fotos, a Joana (com o quadrado) e a Marina, montadora do filme.
