E assim fomos construindo nosso ‘edifício’. O prazo era apertado e muitas vezes parecia que fazíamos dois filmes em um. A montagem sobre a montagem impunha seus caprichos e apresentava, dia após dia, novos desafios. Ao final da primeira semana, já não duvidávamos mais dos caminhos trilhados na filmagem. O negócio agora era não ‘errar a mão’ na representação das situações abordadas. Traduzir em menos de uma hora as complexas ambivalências do lugar supunha evitar a construção de um panorama apocalíptico da saúde pública sem negligenciar a grave situação do hospital (e da saúde pública no país). Era revelar os centros de excelência abrigados pela instituição assim como as diversas estratégias adotadas para driblar a absoluta falta de recursos. Reconhecíamos com progressiva acuidade nosso objetivo: flagrar a dinâmica da coisa pública no país, seu modo de operar. E as consequências muitas vezes perversas dos mecanismos impessoais da burocracia.

Res publica (Editing Diary V ) And so we built our 'building'. The deadline was tight and it often seemed we were doing two movies in one. Editing over and over again had imposed its whims, and presented day after day, new challenges. At the end of the first week, we had no doubt about the pathways of the footage. The business now was trying to avoid a heavy handed representation of the addressed situations. Translating into less than an hour the complex ambiguities of the place implied preventing the construction of an apocalyptic landscape of the public health system, without neglecting the plight of the hospital (and of the public health in the country). It was to reveal the centers of excellence housed by the institution as well as the various strategies adopted to circumvent the absolute lack of resources. We recognized with increasing acuity our goal: catch the dynamics of public affairs in the country, the way they operate. And the often perverse consequences of the impersonal mechanisms of bureaucracy.
